E. W. “Dub” Logan, age 86, of Ozark, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his children.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 19, 2019, in the chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Peter Brent officiating.  Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.

E. W. was born December 19, 1932 in Dale County to the late William Thomas Logan and Ethel Mae Ziglar Logan.   E. W. served his country as a Hospital Corpsman Third Class in the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps from June 1951- July 1955 and was a disabled veteran.  When he returned to Ozark from his military service, he married the love of his life, Martha Sue Deloney.  They built their home in Ozark where they lived the remainder of both their lives.  E. W. was retired from the United States Postal Service; the City of Ozark, where he served as a Communications Sergeant with the Ozark Police Department; and the Dale County Sheriff Department, where he last served as a Security Guard at the Dale County Courthouse.  He enjoyed his time there and loved seeing people.

E. W. had many hobbies.  He enjoyed reading, was an avid fisherman, and loved anything baseball, always counting down after the world series ended as to how long he had to wait for baseball season to start again.  He loved his Atlanta Braves.  E. W. loved his family with all his heart and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He gave of himself freely.  He was especially proud of the military service of his “boys”, Bill Hull, Nick Hull, and Clifford Kautz.  He often told them “There’s only two good duty stations – the one you left and the one you’re going to.” E. W. was quick witted, a good listener, a giver of sage advice, and a confidant to many.  If you shared a secret with him – he still has it.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Martha Sue Deloney Logan; his brothers, Gene Thomas Logan and James F. “Bozo” Logan; one sister, Sue Lucas; and his son-in-law, Jimmy Carnal.  He is survived by his children, Diane (Clifford) Kautz, Phyllis (Bill) Hull, Lisa Carnal, all of Ozark; six grandchildren, Joshua Kautz, Melanie Kautz, Nadean Hull, Nick Hull, Amber Hawkins, and special caregiver, Brandi Williams; and five great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sisters, Martha Whitehead of Marietta, GA and Lillie Logan of Ozark, and sister-in-law Marie Logan of Ozark.  He was especially close to his nephew, Eddie Logan, and his great nephews Eddie “Word” Logan, Michael Logan, and Richard Mathews.  A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Kautz, Nick Hull, Eddie Logan Sr, Eddie Logan Jr, Michael Logan, Corey “Ralph” Bolton, Richard Mathews, and Daniel Hawkins.

The family would like to thank Dale Medical Center Home Health Care (nurse Wendy Hubbard) for the gentle, compassionate, and loving care she provided, as well as the staff of Community Hospice for their compassion.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Vivian B. Adams School, 2047 Stuart Tarter Road, Ozark, AL 36360.
