Obituary of Doris Duffey McCain

Mrs. Doris Elaine Duffey McCain, 88, of Ozark, Alabama died Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family members. Funeral services for Mrs. McCain will be Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. from Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Ozark, Alabama with her nephew, Jarrod Williams, Reverend Jim Hill and Reverend Scott Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Saturday in the church from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Mrs. McCain was born September 3, 1937, in Hurtsboro, Alabama to the late Joseph Edwin Duffey and Inez Hardeway Duffey. She grew up and raised her family along with her loving husband Bobby McCain in Hurtsboro until moving to Ozark, Alabama in 2000. She was a former member of The First Baptist Church in Hurtsboro and also a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Ozark where she served on many committees in her earlier years and up until recently as Treasurer with the Gladys Boswell Sunday School Class. She retired with the Department of Human Resources in Phenix City, Alabama. She spent a lot of her time after retirement serving as a volunteer with The American Red Cross for 23 years in the Family Services Division, also on the Disaster Action Team and the Emergency Response Vehicle . She has willingly traveled all over the United States where there have been floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires and even the 911 disaster in New York, each time committing three weeks away from home on each disaster. She also had a passion for baking her famous five layer and eleven layer homemade cakes. She loved gardening, hunting, camping, fishing, the Atlanta Braves and Auburn Tigers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Duffey McCain; sister, Betty Joyce Duffey; brothers-in-laws, Robert Watford, John Williams and Donald Johnson. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Bobby Ray McCain, Ozark; her two daughters, Lisa Braman (Leonard) of Ozark, Laura Snell (Christopher) of Ariton; six grandchildren, Stephanie Brown (Zachary), Christopher Braman (Mickenzie), Jonathan Guisinger (Brittany), Nicholas Guisinger (Amber), Mallory Fenn (James), and Payton McCain; great grandchildren, Raegan Brown, Easton Brown, Kenzleigh Braman, Holland Braman, Hudson Braman, Laken Guisinger, Alexis Guisinger, J.P. Guisinger, James Fenn, Duffey Fenn, and Hailey Sigers; three sisters, Faye Watford, Jean Williams, and Rosemary Johnson; sister-in-law, Linda Jones (James). Several nieces and nephews also survive. Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Braman, Zack Brown, Jonathan Guisinger, Nicholas Guisinger, Jason Williams and Jessie Williams. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at DaySping Hospice for their love and support and a very loving thank you to Stephanie Thomas. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 1971 Deese Road, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
