Mr. William A. Herring, age 86, of Ariton, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Thursday, May 12, 2005, from Bethel Assembly of God Church with Reverend Bernard Jones, Reverend Stephen Merner, and Reverend Bruce Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in Ariton Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Wednesday evening. Visitation will continue in the Church one hour prior to service time on Thursday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be sent to the Airton Cemetery Fund, C/O Mr. Earl Thompson, 7147 Hwy 51, Ariton, Alabama 36311. Mr. Herring was born March 25, 1919 in Barbour County to the late Callie A. and Alex Herring. His wife, Wilma Smith Herring, preceded him in death in 1993. He was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church. Mr. Herring retired from Civil Service at Fort Rucker where he worked with the water department for 25 years. Survivors include two sons, Billy Clyde Herring, Ariton, Bennie Herring and his wife Juliette, Brundidge, one Brother Talmadge Herring, Phenix City, Alabama. 5 Grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
