Obituary of Thomas Weed Metcalf

Mr. Thomas Weed Metcalf, 81, of Ariton, died Friday morning, May 19, 2017, in Flowers Hospital. A memorial service for Mr. Metcalf will be held 3:30 P. M. Sunday, May 21, 2017, from Ariton United Methodist Church with Reverend Greg Brown officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations directing. The family will receive friends in the church following the services. Mr. Metcalf was born January 23, 1936 in Ariton, Alabama to the late Pelar Dowling Metcalf and Ocie Lee Weed Metcalf. He was a 1961 graduate of Auburn University with a degree in business. He served for three years in the United States Army in Korea. Mr. Metcalf worked with his father in the family hardware business in Ariton, and then worked as a sales representative with sporting goods manufacturers until his retirement. He was a founding member of the Ariton Rescue Squad. Mr. Metcalf was a member of Ariton United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Bradley Metcalf. Survivors include his wife, Betty Phillips Metcalf of Ariton; one daughter, Rhonda (Ron) Ory of Baker, Florida; two sons, Russell (Toni Sullivan) Metcalf of Ozark, Phillip (Christina) Metcalf of Dothan; three grandchildren, Kim (Trenton) Downing, Casey Ketcham, and Ashley Delameter; two great grandchildren, Braylee Metcalf and Greyson Downing who is expected in August 2017; two brothers, Frank Metcalf of Winter Haven, Florida and Pelar Metcalf of Knoxville, Tennessee; a special friend, Tommy Lewis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ariton Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 183, Ariton, Alabama 36311. Service Information
