Obituary of Arthur John Rau

Mr. Arthur John “Art” Rau, 64, of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, died Monday, October 30, 2017.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 4th and Sunday, November 5th at the home of his daughter, Kendall Bowman.
Mr. Rau was born November 14, 1952 in Summerville, New Jersey to the late Philipp George Rau and Harriet Elizabeth Holmes Rau. Mr. Rau moved to Dunedin, Florida when he was a teenager and finished high school there. He worked with Pet Bakery in Florida. Later he moved to Rome, Georgia while working with the bakery that would later become Flowers Bakery, retiring with twenty years of service. In 1991 Art bought land in Cedar Bluff, Alabama and moved his family there. His passion was working in the garden and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Letzo and Barbara Forsthoffer.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-three years, Mary Ann Samson Rau of Cedar Bluff; three daughters, Kendall (Abel) Bowman of Cedar Bluff, Angela Marie (Jason) Thacker of New Port Richey, Florida, Melissa Daniels of Cedar Bluff; one son, Arthur John Rau, Jr. of Cedar Bluff; four sisters, Elizabeth Lewis of Birmingham, Joanne Laskowski of Holiday, Florida, Marion (Doug) Schwartzkopf of Augusta, Georgia, Shiralee (Gary) Fischer of Pinnacle, North Carolina; one brother, Philipp (Jill) Rau of Cary, North Carolina. Seven much loved grandchildren also survive.
