Obituary of Emmett Gerald Evans

Mr. Emmett Gerald Evans, 76, of Ariton, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 4, 2018, from Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Blue Springs with Pastor Daniel Rieben officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home in Ozark from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P.M. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Rogers, Andy Doster, Mickey Griggs, Allen Evans, Jimmy Knight, and Austin Knight.
Mr. Evans was born June 26, 1941 in Barbour County, Alabama to the late Emmett Evans and Velar Wilkinson Evans. He retired from the Army National Guard following twenty-one years of service. He was also in the logging business for over fifty years, owning and operating Evans & Sons Logging. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, but most of all he was an avid fisherman. He passed his love for fishing on to his children, grandchildren, and numerous others through the years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Etha-B Doster (James); two brothers, Melvin Evans and Doug Evans; and one daughter-in-law, Kara K. Evans.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Hazel Rogers Evans; two sons, Mike Evans (Sharon) of Ozark, Mitch Evans (Shannon) of Skipperville; two daughters, Angie Snell (Brent) of Skipperville, April Danner (Dewayne) of Ariton; one brother, Earl Evans (Inez) of Clio; five sisters, Sara Overstreet (Joe) of Ozark, Joyce Wright (Gary) of Prattville, Jeanette Baker of Ariton, Shirley Hyatt (Johnny) of Ozark, and Kay Robertson of Ariton; nine grandchildren, Amanda Evans, Kimberly Evans (Special Caregiver), Ashley Dunn, Chelsey Dunn, Cody Snell, Chelsea Johnson, Brittany Burton, Jonathon Whitehead, and Emma-Brooke Danner; three great grandchildren, Daleigh Grace Burton, Chapman Burton, and Silas Johnson; a special aunt, Flora Aldape of Montgomery; special family friends, Gaye Shipes and Paul Shipes of Ariton; special AlaCare Hospice nurse, Jody Knight
