Obituary of Kenneth Dewell Hartzog

Mr. Kenneth Dewell Hartzog, 90, of Ariton, died Tuesday morning, January 15, 2019.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Saturday, January 19, 2019, in Elam Baptist Church with Reverend Joe Underwood and Reverend Dr. Tharel Shirah officiating. Interment will follow in Elam Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church from 9:30 A.M. until service time.
Mr. Hartzog was born February 18, 1928 in Barbour County, Alabama to the late William Dewell Hartzog and Julia Velma Ketcham Hartzog. He was a dairy farmer and a member of Elam Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and tree husbandry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Verlie Sutton Hartzog.
Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Shirah (Reverend Dr. Tharel Shirah) of Dothan; three sons, Dr. Delton Hartzog (Patricia) of Gadsden, Dr. Danny Hartzog (Emily) of Clayton, Joe Hartzog (Mildred) of Mobile; grandchildren, Alyson Newsome (Jay), Abby Wilson (Allan), Heath Hartzog (Bethany), Stephanie Honeycutt (Jimmy), Shea Hartzog (Aimee), Hollen Smith, Angela Mitchell (Preston), Carrie Maxwell (Andy), and Patrick Walton (Shanleigh); one sister, Evelyn H. Henley. Seventeen great grandchildren also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elam Cemetery Fund, 107 Danny Road, Ariton, Alabama 36311.
