Obituary of Elizabeth Whitman Helms

Mrs. Elizabeth Whitman Helms, age 82, of Ozark, died Sunday afternoon, March 7, 2010, at her home following a long illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Randy Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Morningview Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 12:30 P. M. until service time. Mrs. Helms was born March 24, 1927 in Ozark to the late Orie and Lucille Andrews Whitman. She attended Dale County schools, graduated from high school in 1945, and Massey-Draughon Business College. Following graduation she worked with then Dale County Hospital and with Dr. B. Dowling Petrey as an Insurance Specialist for over twenty-five years. Mrs. Helms was a member of Southside Baptist Church, an avid NASCAR fan, a fan of gospel music, and thoroughly enjoyed watching American Idol. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Mack Helms. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Tim Silavent of Ozark; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Merle Ezell of Hampton Cove, Alabama, Doris Creel of Dothan, Maurine Kirkland of Dothan, Helen and Donald Vaughn of Enterprise; one sister-in-law, Linda Merrill of Opp; one brother-in-law, Ronnie Posey of Pensacola; two grandchildren, Adrian Childers and wife Heather of Denver, Colorado, Sarah Martin and husband Zack, Jr. of Dothan; two great grandchildren, Caiden and Kara Martin. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. Service Information
