Obituary of Darlyne Thacker Barnett

Mrs. Darlyne Thacker Barnett, age 82, died early Thursday morning, November 19, 2009, in Dale Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday, November 22, 2009, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Greg Aman officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 P. M. until 5:00 P. M. Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Barnett was born September 15, 1927 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late John and Sofia Jane Butts Thacker. She married Rufus Barnett on March 9, 1946 in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and returned to Auburn, Alabama in order for Rufus to graduate from Auburn University. They later made their home in Sumter County, Marengo County, and Dale County where Rufus served as head of the Soil Conservation offices. She was a member of Ozark Baptist Church and the Prime of Life Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barnett was preceded in death by her son, Andrew Levin "Andy" Barnett in 1986. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Rufus Barnett, Jr. of Ozark; her son, Steven D. Barnett of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Janet Barnett McElhanon of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; one sister, Bernice Brown of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Alyssa Barnett and her fiance Zack Nichols, Brian and Adrienne Barnett all of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Dr. Christopher Barnett of Yuba City, California. Three great grandchildren also survive. Service Information
