Obituary of Lola Belle Thompson Roberts

Mrs. Lola Belle Thompson Roberts, age 96, of Clio, died Friday morning, August 21, 2009, in Dale Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday, August 23, 2009, from Concord Congregational Methodist Church with Reverend Scott Moffitt officiating. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mrs. Roberts's body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Sunday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M. Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Roberts was born June 11, 1913 in Dale County to the late Alto Lee Thompson and Henrietta Herring Thompson. She was a lifetime member of Concord Congregational Methodist Church, an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing and quilting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Alexander "Alex" Roberts, and seven sons, Holman Roberts, Tillman Roberts, Pate Roberts, Jerome Roberts, Perry Roberts, Pat Roberts, and Hoover Thompson. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Betty Roberts of Clio; two daughters, Marie Carr of Abbeville and Mildred Smith of Ozark; two daughters-in-law, Betty Armstrong Roberts of Clio, and Linda Thompson of Skipperville; two sisters, Etta Mae Meeks of Alma, Georgia, and Vera Bell of Dothan; one brother, Hazen Thompson of Skipperville. Eighteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Concord Congregational Methodist Church, 1086 County Road 23, Ariton, Alabama 36311.
