Mrs. Gladys Richards Beck Baker, age 89, died Sunday, April 26, 2009, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, April 29, 2009, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Pastor Greg Doss officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 P. M. Wednesday until service time. Mrs. Baker was born September 20, 1919 in Henry County to the late William Ezra and Effie Carlisle Richards. She grew up in the Sylvan Grove area of Dale County. She was a member of Ozark First Assembly of God Church and later Prospect Baptist Church in Louisville, Alabama. Mrs. Baker loved children, both hers and others. She provided home day care for more than ten years in Ozark and also worked in the church nursery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Marco Ellis Beck, Sr., one sister, Jimmie Lou Richards Galloway, one brother, Lewie Garrett "Jack" Richards, and one step-daughter, Jeannie Baker Clark. Survivors include her husband, Bennie Frank Baker of Louisville, Alabama; three children, Sandra Beck Morgan (Malcolm) of Warrior, Alabama, Marco Ellis Beck, Jr. (Kathy) of Mobile, Alabama, Ginger Beck Parker (David) of Earlysville, Virginia; three sisters, Nadine Jenkins of Houston, Texas, Eleanor Van Landerham of Asheville, North Carolina, and Annie Ruth Benton (Norman) of Woodbury, Tennessee; two brothers, Atlas Richards (Frances) of Dothan, Alabama, Kenneth Dewitt Richards (Caroline) of Tallahassee, Florida; four grandchildren, Matthew Beck of Birmingham, Alabama, Natalie Parker of Charlottesville, Virginia, Tiffany White Wiggins of Warrior, Alabama, Elizabeth Parker of Sacramento, California; three step-children, Benjamin Baker (Nancy) of Ozark, Alabama, Lenora Baker Helms (Johnny) of Louisville, Alabama, Joe Baker (Janet) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; six step-grandchildren, Susan Helms McCoy (Jeff) of Mobile, Alabama, Michael Helms (Tina) of Moultrie, Georgia, Benjamin Baker (Kimberly) of Montgomery, Alabama, Parrish Baker (Ashley) of Oxford, Mississippi, Amy Clark White (Randy) of Eufaula, Alabama, Jay Clark (Lisa) of Thomasville, Alabama. Nine step-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
