Obituary of Valeria Sasser Richardson

Mrs. Valeria Sasser Richardson, age 85, of Ariton, died early Monday morning, November 24, 2008, in Dale Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, November 26, 2008, from Ariton United Methodist Church with Reverend Greg Brown and Reverend Thomas Kirkland officiating. Interment will follow in Ariton Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mrs. Richardson's body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Tuesday evening. Mrs. Richardson was born October 23, 1923 in Ariton to the late Oscar and Eallie Anna Baker Sasser. She lived her entire life in Ariton where she was a proud member of Ariton United Methodist Church. She married Henry Lewis "Bish" Richardson on June 13, 1942, and they owned and operated Richardson Grocery for many years until his retirement. Mrs. Richardson also owned and operated Valeria's Beauty Shop in her home until she became disabled. Our Mother will be remembered for her loving devotion to her family. Her daughters and her grandchildren was her life. She had a very special love for her grandchildren, and will always be remembered as Nanny. She will always be with us and will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents and her husband of 57 years, she was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Lori Fran and William Carroll, Gina Lee Senn all of Ariton; two sisters, Evelyn Goodman of Phenix City, Alabama, and Verlon Laney of Pasco, Washington; sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Sasser of Ozark; one brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Ruedean Sasser of Huntsville, Alabama; one granddaughter, Melissa Dawn Oliver and her husband, Chris of Banks, Alabama; and one great granddaughter, Meagan Dawn Oliver.
