Obituary of Kathryne Parker Brown

Mrs. Kathryne Parker Brown, wife of the late James Douglas Brown, Sr., died October 3, 2008, following her courageous battle to live. Graveside funeral services will be held in Westview Memorial Cemetery in Ozark at 3:00 P. M. on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Reverend Dr. Christian Eckert, Reverend Dr. Jason Thrower, and Reverend John D. Reese, III will officiate. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive guests at her home until service time. A native of Ozark, Kathryne was born on April 11, 1912 to Tullius Homer Parker and Ruth Amelia Chalker Parker Dowling. She attended school in Ozark and Greenville, graduating from Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama. She attended Woman's College, now Huntington, in Montgomery and graduated from the College for Women at Montevallo in 1933. Prior to marrying Douglas Brown in 1944, she worked in the Dale County Probate Office for Judge Frank O. Deese, New York City, Washington, D.C., and in the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Montgomery as secretary to the Manager and Personnel Clerk, then Registrar for Vocational Rehabilitation Department. For many years she worked with her husband in the Brown Real Estate Company, their family business. She was a long time member of the Ozark Presbyterian Church returning to her childhood church in later life as a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark. She will be remembered for her remarkable strength, stature and grace. Those that met her were always impressed by her remarkable sense of humor, her ladylike ways, and her sweetness. Her family and friends will miss her tremendously. She is survived by two daughters, Tina and her husband Charlie Harper of Ozark, Alabama, Patricia Brown and her husband Jim Snider of Barnesville, Maryland. She had six grandchildren, Chris Harper and his wife Jolie, Charles Harper and his fiance Cherie Smith Shaw, all of Ozark, Kathryne Harper and her husband Todd Lancaster of Dothan, Alabama, Amelia Snider Arthur and her husband Michael of Atlanta, Georgia, Robin Snider and Max Snider of Barnesville, Maryland. She was preceded in death by two children, James Douglas Brown, Jr. and Kathryne Amelia Brown, two sisters Aileen Parker Lord and Francis Elizabeth Parker, two stepbrothers, Mack David Dowling and Hugh Reynolds Dowling. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alabama Kidney Foundation, P. O.
