Walker, Alma Crumpler ("Jack"), 97, a resident of Montgomery and formerly of Newton, Alabama, died on Sunday, August 24, 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Walker Paulk, three granddaughters, Mala Kelley (Neal), Sheri McKean (Rory) of Montgomery and Lisa Roberts (Bill) of Phenix City, Alabama, seven great grandchildren, Landon Michele McKean, Hadley Susan Kelley, Rory Mahlon McKean, Hollee Marie Roberts, Peyton Sealy Kelley, Addison Sayre Kelley, and Haysten Sue Roberts, and one brother, Rev. Joe Crumpler (Carolyn) of Cincinnati, Ohio as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Born in Dale County on January 19, 1911, she graduated from Dale County High School (presently Carroll High School) in 1929. She married Elgin Martin Walker on March 22, 1930 and moved to Newton where she joined the Newton Baptist Church, remaining an active member there for the next 69 years. She had a passion for missions, commitment to prayer, and a servant heart. In 1999, she and Elgin moved to Montgomery where she lived with her daughter Sue. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Elgin Martin Walker, her parents, James Oscar and Flora Josephine Hudson Crumpler, her sister, Avarilla Crumpler Crawford, brothers, Wyatt Crumpler and Tom Crumpler, and her son-in-law, Mahlon Paulk. Visitation will be at Newton Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 26th from 12:30 - 2:00 P.M. with funeral services following at the church with Reverend Joe Crumpler officiating. Burial will follow services at Newton Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Serving as pallbearers will be Shawn Crumpler, Ken Juneau, Tony Hughes, Ernie Render, Rory McKean, Bill Roberts, Neal Kelley, and Rory Mahlon McKean. In lieu of flowers, the family requests sending memorial contributions to Newton Baptist Church, P. O. Box 97, Newton, Alabama 36352, or to the charity of your choice. A naturally gifted pianist and beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, affectionately called "Nannie Jack," she leaves a legacy of homemade poundcakes, unconditional love, wit, and faithfulness to God, family, and friends.
