Obituary of A.C. "Shorty Bell

Mr. A. C. "Shorty" Bell, age 95, of the Rocky Head Community of Ariton, died Thursday morning July 10, 2008, in Oakview Manor Health Care Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced through Holman Funeral Home of Ozark. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday, July 13, 2008, from Rocky Head Baptist Church with Reverend Paul McMonagle and Reverend Joe Underwood officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 P. M. Sunday until service time at 2:00 P. M. Mr. Bell was born January 3, 1913 in Coffee County to the late Cornelius Nellie Godwin Bell and Lawrence Franklin Bell. He owned and operated Bell's Grocery from 1956 until 1966, and then worked with The Army and Air Force Exchange Service at the Fort Rucker PX from 1966 until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Bell was a member of Rocky Head Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Annie Merle Pugh Bell in 2006. Survivors include one daughter, Mae Wingett of Prattville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Linda Bell of Pahrump, Nevada, and DeLeon and DeeDee Bell of the Rocky Head Community; four granddaughters, Penny Elizabeth Woronoff, Patricia Gillian, Kay Herbertz, and Deidre Lynn Bell.
