Obituary of Mary Bertha Davis Batchelor

Mrs. Mary Bertha Davis Batchelor, age 83, of Ariton, died Friday afternoon, April 18, 2008, in Dale Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Monday, April 21, 2008 from Ariton Baptist Church with Reverend Glenn Pippens officiating. Interment will follow in Ariton Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Her body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 P. M. until 4:00 P. M. Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Batchelor was born December 19, 1924 in Dale County to the late Lena Jacobs Davis and Alec G. Davis. She and her late husband, James Forrest "Pete" Batchelor owned and operated Dixie Garden Supply in Florida from 1963 until 1993 when they returned to make Ariton their home. She was a homemaker and a member of Ariton Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Batchelor was preceded in death by two sisters, Ollie Pittman and Inez Ciapponi, and one brother, Gaynor Davis. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, James S. "Stan" Batchelor of Ariton, Jack and Ellen Batchelor of Leesburg, Florida; one daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Jean and Ron Herceg of Pembroke Pines, Florida; three granddaughters, Tracey and Chuck Mallard of Port Orange, Florida, Jennifer and Rob Burke of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Debbie and Jason Norris of Bluffton, South Carolina; five grandsons, Chad Batchelor of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Brandon Batchelor of Leesburg, Florida, John Herceg of Gainesville, Florida, Richard Herceg of Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Ron and Cheryl Herceg of Hoover, Alabama; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Annie Ruth Batchelor of Ariton; one brother, John Henry Davis of Chowchilla, California; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cecil and Miriam Batchelor of Ariton. eighteen nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Steve Laney. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Ariton Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 27, Ariton, Alabama 36311. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Ronald Alfano and the Dale Medical Center I. C. U. Nursing Staff.
