Obituary of Mary Geraldine Swiger Swain

Mrs. Mary Geraldine Swiger Swain, age 84, of Daleville, died Tuesday evening, February 7, 2006, at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Swain's wishes were to donate her body to the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. Mrs. Swain was born December 1, 1921, in Washington, Pennsylvania and grew up in Beallsville, Pennsylvania where she graduated from high school. She attended nursing school in Brownsville, Pennsylvania prior to joining the United States Army. Mrs. Swain served as a 2nd Lieutenant, nursing in occupied Japan and Okinawa where she received the Victory Medal and Japanese Occupation Medal. Her nursing career spanned over 40 years. She married Samuel Swain in 1951 and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mrs. Swain had made Daleville her home since 1981 where she was a member of Daleville Church of Christ. Her husband, Samuel Swain preceded her in death, in 1988. Survivors include four daughters; Beverly Jean Goodman, McMinnville, Oregon, Geri Lynn Rippe and her husband, Carl, Daleville, Sheree Sue Hayes, Daleville, and Janna Lee Cooper and her husband, Gene, Hartford, two sons, John Ralph "Jack" Swain and his wife, Carrie, Jenison, Michigan, and Scott Samuel Swin and his wife Bonnie, North Branch, Michigan, two brothers, Obed Vernon Swiger and his wife, Delores, Bethesda, Maryland, and Gerald Loye Swiger and his wife, Wilma, Waterford, Michigan. Fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive. Memorials may be made in her memory to Daleville Church of Christ, P. O. Box 941, Daleville, Alabama 36322. Service Information
