Mrs. Mary Eudora Newton Byrd, age 89, of the Browns Cross Roads Community of Ozark, died early Monday morning, December 12, 2005, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Thursday, December 15, 2005, from Bethel United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Wednesday evening. Her body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Thursday. The family request the omission of flowers and suggest memorials be made to Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Mrs. Janet Brooks, 7300 E. County Road 36, Ozark, Alabama 36360. Mrs. Mary Eudora Newton Byrd was born June 6, 1916 to the late Daniel Cletus and Effie Bell Johnson Newton. Mrs. Byrd was a life long resident of Dale County. She was a devoted member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Byrd served on the Dale County Board of Registrars for twenty-nine years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Byrd, her parents, and one brother John William (Bill) Newton and his wife, Naomi D. Newton. Mrs. Byrd is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Mary B. and Richard Szczepanski, Ozark, two sons and daughters-in-law: Isaac N. and Joyce Byrd, Snellville, GA; Daniel G. and Lynda Byrd, Panama City Beach, Florida, five grandchildren: Jacqueline V. Miller and her husband, Brian, Bradenton, Florida, Janet S. Denney and her husband, Thomas, Sugar Land, Texas; Julie B. Bare and her husband, Stephen, Covington, Georgia, Stephen D. Szczepanski, Niceville, Florida, and John I. Byrd, Loganville, Georgia, four great-grandsons: Alexander Miller, John Clay Bare, William Denney, and Isaac Bare. She is also survived by five nieces and one nephew. Service Information
