Obituary of Irene Smith Phillips

Mrs. Irene Smith Phillips, age 85, of Ariton, died Monday afternoon, September 5, 2005, in Dale Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Thursday, September 8, 2005, from Bethel Assembly of God Church with Pastor Robert Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in Ariton Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P .M. until 7:00 P. M. Wednesday evening. The body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Thursday. Mrs. Phillips was born March 5, 1920 in Barbour County, to the late Nancy Kennedy Smith and William Henry Smith. She worked with White Knight Manufacturing Company in Ozark until her retirement. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Marilyn Portwood and Lynda Portwood Riley, and her husband, Dewey Phillips. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Dunn and her husband, Tom, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Theresa Peterson and her husband, Pete, Alabaster, Alabama, two sons, Kent Phillips and his wife, Terri, Ariton, and Greg Phillips and his wife, Susan, Qing Dao, China, grandchildren, Jon Riley, Dusty Riley, Andy Phillips, Sarah Phillips, Robert Phillips, Elizabeth Phillips, and Grace Phillips, great grandchildren, Tori Riley, Olivia Riley, Trevor Riley, and Madison Spikes, and two special nieces, Sylvia Casey, Ariton, and Shirley Hartzog, Ozark.
