MSG Retired Wesley Elmer Suckow, of Ozark/Midland City, died July 10, 2005, in the Veterans Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama, following a long bout with cancer. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P. M. Friday, July 15, 2005, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 1:00 P. M. Friday until service time at 2:00 P. M. MSG Retired Suckow was born August 13, 1933 in Plymouth, Wisconsin to the late Edna Richard Suckow and Elmer Erwin Suckow. He graduated from high school there and joined the Wisconsin National Guard, serving for two years. He then enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for 28 years until his retirement at Fort Rucker in August 1983. While serving his country he received the following awards: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with six Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal-seven awards, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon. MSG Retired Suckow had lived in Ozark since 1978, moving to Midland City two years ago due to his illness. Following his retirement, he worked as Manager of Western Sizzlin Steak House in Enterprise and Dothan until they closed. He then worked for over 17 years in management with Mr. J's Family Steak House, resigning in 2001 due to this illness. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Kathy Williams Suckow. Survivors include his devoted wife of 40 years, Marie H. W. Suckow, Midland City, one son, Robert K. W. Suckow, Dothan, and his sons, Robert Suckow, Jr., and Timothy J. Suckow of Ypsilanti, Michigan, one daughter-in-law, Shannon L. Gesco Suckow, Ypsilanti, Michigan, one step-son, George R. Walters, Gates, North Carolina, one step-daughter, Dorothea (Susie) Walters Gilchrist and her husband, Terry, Fort Myers, Florida, four step-grandchildren, Lisa, John, Laurie, and Mark Gilchrist of Fort Myers, Florida, two step-great grandchildren, Kristen and Austin Jurek, Fort Myers, Florida, one sister, Bette Miller and family of Kiel, Wisconsin, two uncles, USAF COL Retired Robert Suckow and his wife, Shirley, Newton, Iowa, and William Suckow and his wife, Eve, Naples, Florida. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 332 North Lauderdale, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
