Mrs. Mildred Hummer Anderson passed away Sunday, March 20, 2005, in Dale Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A. M. Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Shuqualak Cemetery in Shuqualak, Mississippi with Dr. Alan Carter, of Birmingham, Alabama, nephew of Mrs. Anderson, conducting the services. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. on Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, Mississippi. Holman Funeral Home of Ozark is handling local arrangements. Mrs. Anderson was born August 31, 1909 in Prairie Point, Mississippi to the late Helen Jackson Hummer and Glenn Edwin Hummer. She and her twin sister, Margaret, attended elementary school in Prairie Point and graduated from Mashulaville High School in 1928. She attended Mississippi Southern College in Hattisburg, Mississippi and was graduated from Bowling Green Business College in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Mrs. Anderson worked as a legal secretary until her marriage in January 1936 to Louis T. Anderson, Jr. of Shuqualak. She lived in Shuqualak until 1995 when she moved to Ozark, Alabama. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed home making, especially cooking. Mildred was an avid reader and was a frequent visitor of the Dale County Library. She was a member of the Dale County Chapter of the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteers), the Ozark Baptist Church, and the Lydia Sunday School Class. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, Louis T. Anderson, Jr., her parents, Helen Jackson Hummer and Glenn Edwin Hummer, two sisters, Margaret Carter and Eunice McCollum, two brothers, Glenn Edwin Hummer and Vernon Hummer. Survivors include her daughter, Helen Murphree and husband, Dr. James Murphree, Ozark, Alabama, her son, Dr. Louis T. Anderson, III, and wife, Ruth Anderson, Waverly, Tennessee, five grandchildren, Dr. Jim Murphree, Jr., Ozark, Alabama, Dr. Andy Murphree and wife, Leigh, Columbus, Mississippi, Millie Brinyark and husband, Bryan, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Louis T. Anderson IV and wife, Heidi, Dyersburg, Tennessee, Elisha Stevens and her husband, Jon, Burns, Tennessee, one brother, Warren Earl Hummer and wife, Edith, Louisville, Mississippi, two sisters-in-law, Ruby Hummer and Marion Hummer, Macon, Mississippi, one brother-in-law, Dr. Walter Anderson and wife, Mary, Macon, Mississippi. Eleven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
