Mr. William C Thomas, age 90, went to the Lord June 15, 2017 after a lengthy illness.
Memorial Services will be at Skipperville United Methodist Church in Skipperville, Alabama, Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM.
Born and raised in Chicago, Thomas joined the Navy during World War II and served stateside before working at newspapers in St. Petersburg, Florida, Bristol, Tennessee, Suffolk, Virginia, Miami, Florida, Cleveland, Ohio, and Florence, Alabama, before coming to the San Antonio Light Newspaper (a newspaper in San Antonio, Texas) as publisher for six years, then as Senior Associate Publisher before retirement in 1991. He then moved to Ariton, Alabama. He is recognized for his service to multiple civic and charity organizations. He was a mason for 65 years and a past master of the Ariton Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Janice Adkins Thomas; daughters, Valerie Jane Barnes, Susan King, and Kimberly Michelle Peck; step-children, Rex Lewis, Tommy Lewis, Mona Lewis Hughes; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife of 56 years, Jane L. Thomas and step-son Donald Watson.
