Mrs. Garner, the eighth of nine children, was born in 1926 in Moulton, Alabama, to the late Thomas Franklin and Christine Wood Almon. Born and raised in Lawrence County, Alabama, Mrs. Garner moved to Ozark in 1953 while working with the United States Selective Service. There she met and married her loving and dedicated husband, Stanley Garner. After leaving government employment, she assisted him for over 40 years in his private practice of law in Ozark.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, seven sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and two nephews. Surviving her are her husband of 63 years, Stanley Garner; her daughter, Libba (Judd) Stinson of Auburn; her son, Stan Garner, Jr. of Ozark; three grandchildren, Rachel (Mitchell) Loper of Tuscaloosa, Christine (Anders Jenbo) Stinson of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Wells Garner of Ozark. Also surviving are her sister Alice Fulmer; her sisters-in-law, Ann Garner and Virginia Magee; and nineteen nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Garner loved Ozark and Dale County but also cherished her Lawrence County and Almon family heritage and loved keeping the stories of her generation alive in the hearts of the younger Almon generations. A dedicated wife and mother, her greatest joy was being involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives. She was an active supporter of Carroll High Athletics.
Mrs. Garner was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for a number of years, served on the Church Administrative Board, was a member of the United Methodist Women, and was a member of the John Wesley Sunday School Class. Through the years she volunteered in many capacities in the Ozark Community.
