Obituary of Syble Simmons Peters

Mrs. Syble Simmons Peters, 91, of Clayhatchee died March 2, 2015 at her home. Funeral services were held graveside on March 4, 2015 in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Clayhatchee with the immediate family in attendance. Interment followed with Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. Mrs. Peters was born May 23, 1923 in Daleville, Alabama to Grover Simmons and Willie Lou Herring Simmons. After graduation from Daleville High School, she became a “Rosie the Riveter” at a plant in Akron, Ohio building military aircraft for use in WWII. She and Clarence Peters were married shortly after he returned from combat duty in the Pacific Theater. After marrying Clarence her primary career became being a homemaker and mother, both of which she accomplished to perfection. Syble and Clarence were married for 61 years until his death in 2006. In addition to Clarence, Syble was preceded in death by her son-in-law and “Best Buddy” Matt Ledford. Survivors include daughters, Jennie Ledford of Clayhatchee and Barbara Leal (Ray) of San Antonio, Texas; and son, Jerry Peters of Deatsville, Alabama. Five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive. Mrs. Peters was a long-time member of Providence Baptist Church.
