Obituary of D. Kyser Wilson

Mr. D. Kyser Wilson, age 88, of Ariton, passed away Tuesday evening, July 10, 2012, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Friday, July 13, 2012, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend David Walsh and Reverend William B. Easterling officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Coffee County, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the family home in Ariton Thursday evening from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M.
Mr. Wilson was born February 4, 1924 in Coffee County to the late Willis Wilson and Amy Zonia Kyser Wilson. He graduated from high school in New Brockton, and served in the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He joined his father, the founder of Farmers and Merchants Bank in Ariton, when the bank opened in May 1949. Mr. Wilson was associated with the bank for over 46 years, where he rose from cashier to president. He was a respected and beloved citizen of Ariton, where he made significant economic contributions to the growth and development of Ariton. A resolution was recognized naming December 10, 1995 Dewey Kyser Wilson Day in Ariton. He served in such leadership positions as Chairman of the Soil Conservation District for 21 years, as a member of the Personnel Board of the State of Alabama, as Group 10 Chairman of the Alabama Bankers Association, as a member of the Dale County Hospital Board, Ozark Library Board, and Ariton Water Board, Rotary International and Masons. He was a member and Deacon of the Ariton Baptist Church where he served on the Finance Committee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers. Survivors include his wife, Twedell Bain Wilson of Ariton; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Larry Armstrong of Panama City, Florida; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Mary Ann Wilson of Ariton; one sister, Mrs. Amy McCormick of Panama City, Florida;grandchildren, Parker and Kelley Armstrong, Nicholas and Lauren Armstrong, Courtney Clemens, Ryan and Ann Marie Wilson, Morgan and James Jorden, Lacy and John Phillips, and Hannah Wilson.
