Obituary of Lamar Powell

Mr. Lamar Powell, age 84, of Ozark, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, University Medical Center in Birmingham. Funeral services will be 2:30 P. M. Tuesday, July 26, 2011, from Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Aman and Reverend Harry Circle officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. His body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends Monday at Ozark Baptist Church from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Mr. Powell was born August 22, 1926 in Elmore County to the late Thomas Ausley Powell and Limmie Deason Powell. He served in the United States Navy during World War II with the Seabees. Lamar and his wife, Peggy, moved to Ozark in 1962 where they owned and operated the Dairy Queen. He was active in the Alabama-Northwest Florida Dairy Queen Association. Lamar touched the lives of many young men and women during their employment with the Dairy Queen's and the Dairy King in Ozark, Dothan, and Enterprise. He was a member of Ozark Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. Mr. Powell was an avid ping-pong player, enjoyed water skiing and traveling in his motor home. Lamar enjoyed skiing on his 75th birthday. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Williams Powell of Ozark; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Marianne Powell and Philip and Debbie Powell all of Ozark; grandchildren, Dr. Adam Powell, Dr. Austin Powell, Abbey Powell, Philip Powell, Jr., Hunter Powell, Danika Powell, and Spencer Powell; great grandchildren, Mills Powell, Hudson Powell, Neeley Powell, and Alice Powell.
