Obituary of James Willis Chancey

Mr. James Willis Chancey, a resident of Ozark, died Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at his home. He was 81 years old.
Funeral services for Mr. Chancey will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, November 6, 2020, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Michael Lawler and Reverend David Murray officiating, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
Mr. Chancey was born July 4, 1939 in Dale County, Alabama to the late Huey Wilson Chancey and Hilda Edna Willis Chancey. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1957, from Troy State University with a Bachelor of Education Degree, and Master's Degree from Mississippi State University. Mr. Chancey began teaching at G. W. Long School in 1962 and at Carroll High School in 1963. He retired in 1991. Mr. Chancey was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and a former President of Ozark Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joyce Stephens Chancey of Ozark; one son, Mark Jason Chancey (Holly) of Ozark; five grandchildren, Dorian Chancey, Jack Chancey, Chase Chancey, Edie Chancey and Jason Chancey; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara Higden (James) of Inverness, Florida; a special caregiver, Patty Hobbs of Ozark.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Attn: Tribute Department, St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
