Obituary of Willie Edward Whittington, Sr.

Mr. Willie Whittington, Sr., of Ozark, died at his home Wednesday evening February 17, 2020. He was 97 years old. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Dr. Dennis Tew officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until service time. Willie was born on January 13, 1924 to Evan and Lettie Whittington in Toxey, Alabama, and has been a resident of Ozark since 1949. He served in the United States Army during World War II from February 1943 to October 1947 in Italy and was awarded a Good Conduct Metal, World War II Victory Metal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star and European African Middle Eastern Service Metal with four Bronze Stars. Willie worked with Jordan Pile Driving Company of Ozark for 40 years and spent his retired 33 years outside, working around his home. Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Hazel Whittington; son, Willie Whittington, Jr., and daughter-in-law Patricia of Orlando, Florida; grandson, James and wife Marla of Chicago, Illinois; grandson Kevin and wife Ariel of Oviedo, Florida; and four great grandchildren; Parker, Wyatt, Adelyn and Juniper. The family would like to express their appreciation to caregiver Mary Alice Smith and the entire staff of the Community Hospice of Ozark, Alabama.
