Obituary of Mary Ruth Snell

Mrs. Mary Ruth Strickland Snell, 86, a resident of Skipperville, died Thursday, February 18, 2021, at the home of her daughter. Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Sunday, February 21, 2021, from Asbury United Methodist Church with Reverend Tara Chamblee, Reverend Ken Spivey and Reverend Jim Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home in Ozark from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Mrs. Snell was born May 6, 1934 in Dale County, Alabama to the late Albert Newton Strickland and Ruby Hughes Strickland. She was employed with Civil Service at Fort Rucker in Finance and Accounting for 26 years until her retirement. Mrs. Snell was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she served as Church Treasurer. She served as a “Pink Lady” with Dale Medical Center for several years. She always enjoyed the outdoors, fishing in the family ponds, crocheting and sewing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Snell; her sister, Margaret Lenora Strickland Dean; one grandson, Daniel Logan Grantham; and her brother, Herman Strickland. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, June and Rickey Grantham; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Bob and Sherri Snell all of Skipperville; grandchildren, Becky Reed (Trip), Rachel Snell, Dr. Wesley Snell (Randi), Amy Shaw and Emily Wilson. Seven great grandchildren also survive. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2536 County Road 33, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
