Obituary of William "Mac" McWilliams

SFC William Arnold “Mac” McWilliams, (United States Army, Retired), a resident of Ozark, died early Thursday morning, August 5, 2021, in Dale Medical Center. He was 88 years old. Funeral services for Mr. McWilliams will be 11:00 A. M. Monday, August 9, 2021, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Ozark with Reverend Jim Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends in the church Monday from 10:00 A.M. until service time. SFC McWilliams was born April 18, 1933 in Dekalb, Mississippi to the late Walter Ross McWilliams and Emma Jane Long McWilliams. Mac married Betty Jean Hutton in 1952 and they were blessed with four beautiful daughters. He served in the United States Army and Army National Guard for over twenty-six years which included two tours in Vietnam. He was stationed in Japan, Hawaii, Germany and multiple other locations including three times at Fort Rucker where he retired June 30, 1977. Prior to his military service, he played the guitar and sang for one of Mississippi’s number one Hillbilly Bands. SFC McWilliams was a member and served as a Deacon for many years at Logan Road Baptist Church and Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Ozark. He enjoyed the church music program where he played and sang. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight sisters; and one grandson, Reese Fleece. Survivors include his wife, Betty Hutton McWilliams of Ozark; four daughters, Dianne Fleece (Louis) of Richmond, Virginia, Lynne McWilliams of Daleville, Susan Enfinger (Jeffrey) of Dothan and Charlotte Carter (Kevin) of Hartford; grandchildren, Angie Williams, Chris Blunt, Jason Blunt, Gina Blunt, Amanda Muldoon, Sarah Enfinger, Laura Enfinger, Nick Carter and Joshua Carter; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Janie McWilliams of Dekalb, Mississippi; his twin brother, Donald McWilliams of Meridian, Mississippi; and his special fur-baby, Sam. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 1971 Deese Road, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
