Obituary of Marvin Howard Skeen

Mr. Marvin Howard Skeen, devoted husband, father, and “PawPaw” passed away peacefully on March 2, 2023. He was 90 years old. Funeral services for Mr. Skeen will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home in Ozark from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Marvin was born in Kentuck, West Virginia on February 1, 1933. He joined the United States Air Force in 1953 and proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring at the rank of Major. During his time on active duty, he was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star, and the Distinguished Flying Cross among other citations. He then continued to serve working as a civil service employee; including many years at Lyster Army Hospital. Upon second retirement, he began his third and most beloved career, that of being “PawPaw”, an avid fisherman and traveler, and yard sale negotiator. Marvin was preceded in death by a grandson, David Marvin Bushnell, and by his parents, Howard and Doris Skeen. He was also preceded in death by five brothers-- Charles, Aaron, Allen, Max and Phillip Skeen as well as two sisters, Delphia Fleck and Karen Davis. Those left to cherish his memory include his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 67 years, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Anderson Skeen; three sons, Rick Skeen of Ozark; Michael Skeen (Joy) of Perry, Ga; and Steven Skeen (Krista) of Canton, Ga; one daughter, Lisa Bushnell (Jeffrey) of Ozark; as well as three grandchildren, Clayton Bushnell (Brittany) of Ozark, Madelyn Skeen of Atlanta, Ga, and Ellie Skeen (Zack) of Atlanta, Ga; and one great-grandson, Nyles Bushnell of Ozark. The family would also like to extend sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Dale Medical Center and Oakview Manor for their kindness and attentive care over the last several months. Flowers are welcome or donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research, Community Hospice of Dale Medical Center, or to a charity of your choice in Marvin’s honor.
