Obituary of Sam Richard Barranco
Mr. Sam Richard Barranco, a resident of Ozark, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was 89 years old.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Barranco will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 5, 2023, from St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Chris Boutin officiating, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home in Ozark from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:00 P.M.
Mr. Barranco was born August 1, 1933 in Grenada, Mississippi to the late Vincent and Mary Marascalco Barranco. He graduated from Grenada High School where he played fullback for the Grenada Bulldogs football team. He was also a member of the Grenada High School Band. He attended the University of Mississippi “Ole Miss” where he was a member of the Ole Miss Marching Band “Hotty Toddy”. Mr. Barranco then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean War. Following his military service, he moved to Los Angeles, California and continued his career in radio and television. He met and married his wife of 63 years, Dorine. They moved to Greenwood, Mississippi where they started their family while Sam worked at the local T.V. Station, WABG. From Greenwood they moved to Huntsville, Alabama where Sam worked at Redstone Arsenal on the Saturn Missile Project. In 1966 they moved to Ozark, Alabama where he worked at Fort Rucker, retiring as Director of ETV at Fort Rucker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie, Louis and Joe Barranco.
He is survived by his wife, Dorine Fuller Barranco; two sons, Rick Barranco (Iris) and Chris Barranco (Daphne) all of Ozark; one daughter, Denise Kasper (Marty) of Sterrett, Alabama; grandsons, Vince Barranco (Jennifer) of Ozark, Tony McKenna (Samantha) of USAF Praia DaVitoria, Azores; one granddaughter, Laura Fowler (Jarod) of Bay Minette, Alabama; nephews, Vince Barranco (Marjorie) of Oxford, Mississippi, Sam Barranco (Kathy) of Meridian, Mississippi, Michael Barranco of Greenwood, Mississippi; and ten great grandchildren.
