papa I will never forget what a great man you was. You inspired me throughout the years, especially on our many trips. You outdid me on many of these hikes, and was always smiling and joking around. You loved God’s country and never stopped exploring his beautiful country and I am glad I got to share that with you these last few years.

Papa loved to travel and his family. On a few of the trips we took over the years. It’s hard to believe he is gone and we won’t get to share anymore of these trips together. We love you papa and glad that on one of our many trips you got to meet your great great granddaughter Emily.

I am going to miss papa, thru the years I didn’t get to spend as much time with him as I would have liked. However I will not forget the summer me and Melinda spent a couple of weeks with them and papa decided that he would have us help him spread chicken fertilizer all over the yard, boy did it stink and nana was just a fussing at us that we better not track it in her house. Papa would remind us of that over the years anytime we would mention spending anytime with him, because he would jokingly tell us maybe it’s time for me to get more chicken fertilizer for y’all to spread. The fishing trips we went on with him and riding in his little s10 in the back with the camper shell on it. We were never fastened in seatbelts when we went anywhere with him. Papa you will truly be missed and for sure never forgotten.

Papa was the best mentor to me he will dearly be missed. I will always remember all the memories we had together and the many spankings he gave me, especially the one with the yellow nylon rope for throwing rotten grapefruits at my sister Kim, all the fishing trips and many more memories that will last a life time. I love you Papa I will see you again some day.

Dear Great Papa,
Thank you for all the memories and love that you showed everyone. I hope you and Papa Roy are up there hunting those big deer, catching the biggest fish, and having a good old time. Give papa and granny a big hug for me. I can’t wait to see you again one day.
Love,
Lindsey

Papa has made it to home to heaven. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. Glad I was in a position to send these last few years making memories with him as we traveled around the United States and Canada. One fond memory was when we first started traveling and papa thought he was in heaven when he spent the night in a hotel and had a king size bed all to himself. Another, was traveling through snow one minute and the dessert the next. Our last trip this past summer was to Branson, Missouri to see the play Queen Esther at the Sight and Sound Theater. All always remember his laugher and his hard work.

Photo of Granny & Papa on a date circa 1941. Granny kissed the back of the picture and the lipstick bled through to the front on her legs.

I will always remember growing up next door to Papa and all the times the entire family got together at his house for fish frys, picking pecans, Christmas mornings, and Easter egg hunts. I will always remember how Papa loved to fish, whether snatching mullet or fishing for catfish with cane poles. He was such a strong presence in my life and it seemed like he was always on the go. He worked hard, took care of his family, had a great sense of humor and was willing to do anything to help others. A kind and humble Christian man who will be missed greatly.
