Obituary of Nina Jackson Jernigan

Mrs. Nina Jackson Jernigan, 91, a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and a former resident of the Beamon Community of Dale County, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday night, April 8, 2024. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Eric Fuller officiating. A private interment will be in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning in the church from 9:00 A.M. until service time. Nina was born on May 28, 1932 to the late Jesse and Ella Jackson in Ozark, Alabama. Her first job as a licensed practical nurse was working in pediatrics in Fort Rucker. For 29 years she worked for the Ozark Nursing Home with caring and dedication. On February 14, 1957 she married the late Jerry Jernigan. Nina was a faithful member of Ozark Baptist Church. In 2022 Nina moved to Colorado Springs to be cared for by her daughter. Nina attended Rock Family Church while she lived in Colorado. Nina was a wonderful gardener, well known for her beautiful azaleas and ferns. As an animal lover, she enjoyed spoiling her pets, especially Phoebe, and feeding birds, squirrels, and rabbits in her backyard. She was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Atlanta Braves. Mostly, she will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother as well as for her strong faith in Jesus Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Jerry D. Jernigan: her son-in-law, Grant Rogers, and by her three sisters: Ilene Jackson, Syble Bush, and Maunell Woodham. Survivors include two sons: Gary (Darlene) Jernigan of Opelika and Mark (Kelli) Jernigan of Ozark, and two daughters: Cindy (Ian) McKelvey of Colorado Springs and Gayle Rogers of Montgomery; ten grandchildren: Lindsay (John Curtis) Stokes, Katie (Michael) Tyler, Dillon (Bekah) Scott, Connor (Hannah) Scott, Claudia Scott, Dylan Rogers, Matthew Jernigan, Jessica Jernigan, Cody McKelvey, and Ella McKelvey; five great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Angel Kelley and Teresa Farley for their loving care of Nina in her Ozark home. Also, we would like to thank Vee Ammerman and Abode Hospice of Colorado for their loving care of Nina in her last weeks. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Ozark Baptist Church, 282 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
