Obituary of Joyce Stephens Chancey

Mrs. Joyce Stephens Chancey, a resident of Ozark, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024. She was 81 years old. A private memorial service will be held at a later date for Mrs. Chancey. Holman Funeral Home of Ozark has been entrusted with the arrangements. Mrs. Chancey was born March 18, 1943 in Eufaula, Alabama to the late Cecil and Leola Stephens. Joyce moved to Enterprise in the 1960’s to work at Fort Rucker where she met James Willis Chancey. They were married in May 1966 and made their home in Ozark. She became a homemaker and raised their son Mark. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Untied Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Hospitality Committee. Joyce adored her husband and son. She loved to cook for them and make-over them continually. Joyce enjoyed talking on the phone and those special afternoon walks with James to their special spot on their property where they will eventually be laid to rest. She was an extreme Alabama fan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Willis Chancey. Survivors include her son, Mark Jason Chancey of Ozark; one sister, Barbara Higdon (James) of Irverness, Florida; and five grandchildren.
