SFC McCathren was born October 27, 1943 in McArthur, Ohio to the late Harold O. McCathren and Velma Marie Brooks McCathren. He grew up there with his nine siblings. SFC McCathren served in the United States Army from 1965 until 1985 which allowed him to travel the world; including being stationed in Vietnam and Germany as well as road tripping across the entire United States with his family. He is survived by his wife, Carol Marcus McCathren of Skipperville; his three children, Pamela Lewis (George) of Dothan, Ross McCathren of Skipperville, and Gayle Madden (John) of Southern Pines, North Carolina; his six grandchildren, Mallorie, Cassandra, Gavin and Gage Lewis, Mary and Lucy Madden; siblings, Connie, Diana, Dennis, Donna, Gary (Twin) and Roger.
