Obituary of Mack Edward Tharpe
Mr. Mack Edward Tharpe, a resident of Skipperville, died Saturday, December 7, 2024, in Dale Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was 80 years old.
Funeral services for Mr. Tharpe will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Harold Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Skipperville Community Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home in Ozark from 9:30 A.M. until service time.
Mr. Tharpe was born August 28, 1944, in Barbour County, Alabama to the late George Clarence Tharpe and Molly Elloine Flynn Tharpe. Mr. Tharpe graduated from Blue Springs High School where he excelled in football and basketball. After graduation from high school he was drafted into the United States Army where he made the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, he worked with Hayes Aircraft as a painter and later with the Tharpe Brothers Drywall and Commercial Construction. He loved to play in men’s business softball and basketball leagues, loved to sing, tell stories and watch Fox News on television. Mack was an avid Alabama fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Amanda Tharpe. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Judy Faye Johnson Tharpe of Skipperville; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Dianne Tharpe, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rodney and Karen Johnson all of Skipperville; four nieces, Michelle Baxter (Phillip) of Clio, Denise Brackin (Mark) of Skipperville, Danielle Pylant (Craig) of Skipperville, Brittany Peters (Lee) of Ozark; and nephew, Trae Johnson (Stephanie) of Ozark; great nieces, Brynlee and Briella Peters; great nephews, Jaxon Brannon, Dylan Abercombie, Owen Pylant (Gabbi) and Alec Pylant (Raine).
