Obituary of Ralph S. Cannon

Mr. Ralph S. Cannon, Sr., age 95, of Ozark, died early Saturday morning, April 7, 2007, at his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Monday, April 9, 2007, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Greg Aman and his grandson, Reverend Bill Cannon officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 P. M. until 5:00 P. M. Sunday afternoon. Mr. Cannon was born March 20, 1912 in Ozark to the late Safronia Carroll Cannon and William Oliver Cannon. He attended the Ozark City Schools and began his career in Painting in the 1930's. Mr. Cannon owned and operated Ralph Cannon Painting Contractors in Ozark until his retirement in 1981. He was a past member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church and presently a member of Ozark Baptist Church. He was a loving father, grandfather, and an avid outdoorsman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Lillian Grace Spurlock Cannon in 1988, four sisters, Cap Ellard, Lena Wise, Odell Pittman, and Helen Hatcher, and a great granddaughter, Sarah Brooke Cannon. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Warren Morimoto of Phenix City, four sons and daughters-in-law, Carroll and Irene Cannon, Ralph Cannon, Jr., William and Virginia Cannon, all of Ozark, and John Andrew and Anita Cannon of Clanton, eleven grandchildren, Debbie Casey, Amelia Cummings, William "Bill" Cannon, II, Darren Cannon, Dawn West, Diane Cannon, Kevin Cannon, Kimberly Cannon, Gina Barnes, Shannon Peters, and William Gray Cannon, and a special caregiver, Gerlena Knight. Sixteen great grandchildren also survive. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in his memory to Gideons International, P. O. Box 291, Ozark, Alabama 36361, or to Rocky Mount Baptist Church, 583 East County Road 36, Ozark, Alabama 36360-7895..
