Reverend Edward Barrett “Edd” Rogers (Retired Major, United States Army) of Ozark died Sunday, April 23, 2017, in Dale Medical Center. He was 87 years old.
A memorial service for Reverend Rogers will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, April 27, 2017, from the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Ozark with Reverend Chad Ingle officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.
Reverend Rogers was born November 14, 1929 in Pocataligo, Georgia. He served for twenty years in the United States Army, including Germany and Vietnam. Following his military service, he attended seminary and became a Lutheran Minister. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Rogers; his parents, James Murray Rogers and Elizabeth Barrett Rogers; two grandchildren, Pedro Eduardo Casango and James Daniel Reeves.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Merilyn Stibbe Rogers of Ozark; three daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna and Pete Casango of Brownsville, Texas, Angela and James Reeves of Mississippi, Pamela and Donald McLeod of McDonough, Georgia, one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Maggie Rogers of New Jersey, two step-daughters, Nancy McKnight of Dothan, Alabama, Julie Spann of Dothan, Alabama; two step-sons and one daughter-in-law, Kyle McGovern of Big Canoe, Georgia, Todd and Roberta McGovern of Dothan, Alabama; one sister, Betty Williamson of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Sue Rogers of Dunedin, Florida. Twenty grandchildren also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2454 Andrews Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
