Mr. Bast was a native of South Gate, California. He served in the United States Army for thirty years in aviation maintenance during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and three tours in Vietnam, retiring in 1975. He was very active in the Alabama Living History Program. He was preceded in death by his son, Kerry Bast in March 2003.
