Mr. Berman A. Jackson, age 82, a resident of Ozark, died Thursday afternoon, January 26, 2006, at his home following an illness of several months. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday, January 29, 2006, at the Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Aman and Reverend Gillis Crenshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M. Saturday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ozark Baptist Church, 282 S. Union Avenue, Ozark, AL 36360, or to Wiregrass Hospice, 1970 E. Andrews Avenue, Ozark, AL 36360. Berman was born in Dale County, August 7, 1923, the first of three sons, to Sinthy and Minnie Baxley Jackson. He attended school in Echo and graduated from Midland City High School in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in the South Pacific Theater and was stationed on Guam during the early occupation of the island. After his military service, he was employed with Liberty National Life Insurance Company and later with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1983 as a rural letter carrier. Following his retirement from the post office, he was associated with Holman Funeral Home in Ozark for 21 years as a licensed funeral director. He retired in August 2004, due to health concerns. A longtime member of the Ozark Baptist Church, Berman served for many years as an usher, taught R. A.'s, and worked with the bus ministry. He was active in the Carroll High School Band Boosters Club and the Quarterback Club. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He was affectionately called "Bum-Bum" by his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, a brother, Glenn Jackson, and a granddaughter, Shelley Payne, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Eva Stokes Clark Jackson, Ozark; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane Clark Taylor, Ozark, Jenny Clark Richie and her husband Rodney, Ozark, and Jan Jackson Robertson and her husband Dale, Madison, AL; a son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Mary Jackson, Dothan; seven grandchildren, Capt. USMC David Kummer, Jr., and his wife, Jennifer, LeeAnne Maund and her husband, Bert, Michele Vairo and her husband, Joe, Melisa Richie, Adrian Payne, Ryan Payne, and Chase Jackson; great grandchildren, SarahBeth, Harrison, Noah, and Emma Claire Kummer, Ben and Mia Maund, and Joseph and Olivia Vairo; a brother and sister-in-law, Max and Elsie Jackson, Dothan; and many other extended family members.
