Obituary of John Ed Harrell

Mr. John Ed Harrell, age 90, of Ozark, died Thursday morning, June 7, 2012, at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday, June 10, 2012, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Dr. Shane Black and Chaplain Charles Goldsmith officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M.
Mr. Harrell was born September 12, 1921 in Midland City to the late James Thaddeus Wilson Harrell and Leona Kennedy Harrell. He was engaged in farming and poultry production as an early broiler house operator. Mr. Harrell worked at Fort Rucker as an aircraft painter and retired following 28 years of service. He was one of the instrumental founders of the Dale County Rescue Squad in Newton and a past member of Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Eddith Andrews Harrell; three sisters, Etter Lee Preston, Maddie Victoria Preston, and Gussie Shirah; one brother, James Tolbert Harrell; and one son-in-law, James Roy McKnight.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Annette McKnight of Newton, Renee and Frank Kingsley of Ozark, and Jewania and Bob Zarbo of Las Vegas, Nevada; ten grandchildren, Sheryl Jernigan and her husband, Ken of Newton, Joy Standifer and her husband, Jeff of Birmingham, David Shaw and his wife, Dawn of Yuba City, California, Kris Spurlock and her husband, Donny of Wewahitchka, Florida, Scott Shaw of Ozark, Kimberly Marichalar and her husband, John of Phoenix, Arizona, Christopher Zarbo and his wife Jody of San Gabriel, California, Jamey Kingsley of Ozark, Jennifer Hinson and her husband, B. T. of Dothan, Alabama, and Janan Hussey and her husband, Lee of Troy; twenty great grandchildren, Shelby Shaw, MacKenzie Shaw, Rylan Shaw, Zackery Shaw, Jason Shaw, Alexis Shaw, Tyler Hussey, Bryant Hussey, Parker Hinson, Mason Spurlock, Jordan Shaw, Logan Marichalar, Hayden Marichalar, Carlie Zarbo, Katy Montoya, Tyler Perkins, A. J. Jernigan, Maddi Standifer, Emily Standifer, and Lydia Standifer; one step-sister, Dina Burdeshaw of Columbia, Alabama; several nieces and nephews; and his best Pekingese friend, Buster.
