Patriotism, hard work, and caring are some of the traits for which Darrell will be remembered by those who know him best. As a young man Darrell volunteered for military service during the Vietnam War. He served with honor at a time when many of us chose not to. He began as a carpenter and worked his way up to Supervisor of several major construction projects before establishing his own business. Darrell always seemed willing to help young people and friends in need. He often provided more than just a job and pay check. While he set high expectations in the workplace, he also provided personal guidance and support that extended beyond the jobsite. The friendship and guidance he provided wassincere and heartfelt. In summary, Darrell cared. That is a tremendous legacy.

As a friend of Darrell Eastman I remember him as a man that "as your friend" would give anything he had to you to help you...certainly he could challenge those with whom he had issues. To be sure, however, having him as a friend has only multiplied my life's dividends. Darrell was no more a saint than any of us but he was a good man and a grand contractor. As far as me and my son, Lede, are concerned he loved us unconditionally and we both give thanks for having had him in our lives. We ask that God show him favor and forgiveness for his eternal life.

From the time I was born, I always had my Aunt Debbie and Uncle Darrell. They were, and still are, a big part of my life. They always showed me the love and understanding that a child needs while growing into adulthood. Darrell, in particular, taught me many things about life: working hard, playing hard, how to behave, and how not to behave. He helped me out more than once, when I really needed help. There are a few instances that come to mind: He gave me a job on more than one occasion, when I really needed one. He also helped me by co-signing for what I consider to be my first car that I paid for on my own (that car is still running and on the road today, by the way). Regardless of his legendary temperamental personality, he was a man that I could count on when I needed him; and, although I haven't seen him in several years, I will miss him and often think fondly of him. He was, and will always be my "Uncle Darrell."

I did not realize what a gap in our lives Darrell's death would leave. It will be forever wide and unfillable. We all started out so young; so hopeful and always together until it was time for us not to be. It's like that old hymn often sung at the funerals of my youth about the " circle being unbroken..." and our circle now feels very broken. I never, ever thought this would hurt like it does. We loved Darrell and he loved us. This finality has brought the fragility of life to me in a way the deaths of my parents and grandparents did not for the obvious reasons. Thank you,
Darrell and goodbye for now. Toni Sullivan
