Obituary of Myrtle Johnston Carpenter

Mrs. Myrtle Johnston Rice Carpenter, age 86, of Ozark, died Tuesday evening, August 2, 2011, in Oakview Manor Health and Rehabilitation, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Saturday, August 6, 2011, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Dr. Dennis Tew officiating. Interment will follow in Bersheba Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M.
Born in Dale County, AL., on September 5, 1924, she was the daughter of Lee and Chloe Johnston. She lived for many years in Newberry, SC. where most people may remember her as a long time waitress at Haile's Truck Stop and for her keen sense of humor, prominent until the end of her life.
She is survived by her son, Keith (Kathy) Rice of Greeneville, TN., and their children, Kyle (Laura) Rice, Jeremy Rice and his son Buddy, and Alex Rice; daughter, Patricia Perry of Ozark, AL; daughter, Peggy Copulsky of Newberry, SC.; grandson, Kevin Rice (Rocio) and their children, Gabbi, Jackson, Keiji and Keici all of Elk Grove, CA; daughter-in-law, Nanette Rice of Elk Grove, CA, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Larry Rice, and grandsons Michael Perry and Brannon Rice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 246 Church Avenue, Ozark, AL, 36360; or to the Bersheba Cemetery Fund, C/O Mrs. Linda Paramore, 8458 County Road 68, Skipperville, AL 36374.
