Obituary of Robert Emerson Stamper

Mr. Robert Emerson Stamper, age 64, of Ozark, died early Sunday morning, January 17, 2010, in Dale Medical Center. A memorial service for Mr. Stamper will be held at 1:00 P. M. Saturday, February 6, 2010, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with United States Army Chaplain officiating. Mr. Stamper was born October 19, 1945, in Wilson, North Carolina to Florence Estes Sumner Stamper and the late William Palmer Stamper. He graduated from Ralph L. Fike High School in 1964, attended Chowan Junior College, received his Associate in Applied Science Degree from Alabama Aviation and Technical College in 1984, and worked toward his Batchelor of Science Degree from Troy State University in Dothan. Mr. Stamper served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Pilot, Flight Operations Officer, and Aviation Maintenance Officer. He served with the United States Army Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer Four, which included several active duty assignments both inside and outside the United States. Later he worded as an Instructor Pilot for UNC Aviation Services at Fort Rucker. Mr. Stamper will be remembered as an inspirational leader who promoted individual growth through a common sense approach. Survivors include two daughters, Sabrina Wertz of Williamsburg,Virginia, and Leigh Anne Strickland of Lynnhaven, Florida; his mother, Toni Stamper of Wilson, North Carolina; two brothers, Bill Stamper and Mark Stamper both of Raleigh, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Raven Wertz of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Cole Strickland of Lynnhaven, Florida; and a special friend Paula Hayes.
