Obituary of Joe R. Outlaw

Mr. Joe R. Outlaw, age 69, of Ozark, died Saturday afternoon, July 23, 2011, at Flowers Hospital following a sudden heart attack.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A. M. Tuesday, July 26, 2011, from Westview Heights United Methodist Church with Reverend Russell Burleson officiating and COL (Retired) Bob Bunting delivering the Eulogy. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. His body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M.
Joe was loved by his family, friends, and community. He was indeed a great husband, father, and citizen. Joe graduated from Carroll High School in 1961. He served the people of his community in so many ways through the years. He retired from Civil Service, taught at EOCC (Aviation Campus) and recently retired and sold his business, Outlaw HVAC. Joe served as an Ozark City Council member since 1993, life member of AUSA, past Chairman of Ozark/Dale County United Way, past member of Board of Directors for Boys and Girls Club, member Ozark Masonic Lodge 349, Kolb Chapter 468, Order of The Eastern Star, Carroll High School Quarterback Club, Wallace Community College Foundation Board member, an active member of Westview Heights United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees.
Joe was such a caring and giving man. He was an honest, hardworking, dedicated man who was committed to serving his community, Ozark, and the Wiregrass area.
Joe is survived by his wife of 46 Years, Catherine Peters Outlaw of Ozark;
one brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Margie Outlaw of Newton;
two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gail and Erwin Boger of Enterprise, and Kay and Mike Pascoe of Dothan;
sister-in-law, Lila Mae Outlaw of Ozark;
two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Royce and Shirley Walker of Ozark, Ronnie and Sybil Kelley of Dothan.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Anthony "Winkie" Outlaw in 1991; his parents, Richard and Ruth Outlaw of Newton; brothers, Pearson, Tom, and Huey Outlaw; sisters, Jewel Andrews, Kate Holland, and Lucille Tidwell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louie and Lorena Peters.
Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive.
The family requests the omission of flowers. Donation may be made to your charity of choice in honor of Joe.
