Mr. Daniel Eugene "Gener" Hughes, age 74, of Dothan, died Tuesday morning, September 21, 2010, in Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Thursday, September 23, 2010, from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend William Hart and Reverend Timothy Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. His body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time Thursday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Wednesday.
Mr. Hughes was born April 18, 1936 in Dale County to the late Floyd and Georgia Mae Snell Hughes. He served for 43 years with the Army National Guard, 131st Tank Battalion in Ozark, prior to his retirement as an E8. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ozark. Mr. Hughes enjoyed his vegetable gardens and his pecan orchard.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Parker Hughes of Dothan;
one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and John Sanders of Dothan;
two step-daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Scott Tisdale of Mexico Beach, Florida, Jennifer and Tommy Ammons of Skipperville;
five grandchildren, Parker Wood Thrash, Trenton Daniel Sanders, Julie Ann Wright McDaniel, Jared Wright, Brittney Miller;
two brothers, Kenneth Hughes and W. O. "Sonny" Hughes of Ozark.
Four great grandchildren also survive.
