Obituary of Robert D. Bayne

Mr. Robert Donald "Bob" Bayne, Sr., age 84, of Ozark, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Saturday, November 15, 2008, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home of Ozark with his son, Reverend Robert D. Bayne, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. His nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Friday evening. Mr. Bayne was born September 12, 1924 in Auburndale, Florida to the late Edna Balkcom Bayne and Dewitt Talmadge Bayne. He joined Civilian Conservation Corps Camp in California at age fifteen, and joined the Navy at age seventeen where he served for twelve years during World War II and the Korean Conflict as a gunners mate. Mr. Bayne worked with Civil Service at Fort Rucker for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1980. He was an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed fishing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Morris and Christine Griffin. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Edna Earle Bolton Bayne of Ozark; one daughter, Bobbie Jean Gilbert of Dothan; one son and daughter-in-law, Reverend Robert Donald Bayne, Jr. and wife Hermoine of Selma; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Cooke of Panama City, Florida, Marguerite and Ron Schmitz of Huntsville, Ann and Raymond Chase of Websterville, Vermont, Louise Collier of Winter Haven, Florida; two grandchildren, Sabrina (Butch) Collum and Heather (Jason) Brown; three great grandchildren, Ashley Stephens, Allison Lowey, and Bryant Brown; one great-great grandchild, Mackenzie Stephens. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2346 West Main Street - Suite 3, Dothan, Alabama 36301.
