Obituary of Mary Elnora Monk

Mrs. Mary Elnora (Elna) Cheshire Monk, a longtime resident of Ozark, died June 24, 2011, in Seneca, South Carolina, where she had been living with her son and his family. She was 94.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Tuesday, June 28, 2011 in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with viewing at 9:00 A. M. The Reverend Marquis M. Wingard will be officiating. Special music will be provided by her grandson, Steve Monk. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, June 27, 2011, from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. The home of Ken and Shirley Cantley (niece), 354 Stonebridge Lane, Ozark, will be the relative's home during this time.
Elna Monk was born on November 21, 1916 in Dale County to the late Anon and Camilla Baldwin Cheshire. She was a 1936 graduate of Midland City High School. She worked with her husband at the Ozark Railway Express Office. With the marriage to William Boyd Monk on July 4, 1940, she also became a member of Brown's Church where she was a member for 71 years. Mary Elna Monk was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Monk (1993); brothers, Lehman (Dorothy) Cheshire of Washington, DC, Clifton Cheshire, Luther (Doris) Cheshire all of Ozark.
Survivors include a brother, George (Mildred) Cheshire of Oklahoma City, OK;
sister-in-law, Mary Jeanne (Clifton) Cheshire of Ozark;
son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Faye Monk of Seneca, SC;
grandchildren, Steve (Ginny) Monk of West Paterson, NJ, Angela Monk (Al) Saunders of Birmingham, AL, and Ashley Monk of Seneca, SC;
great grandchildren, Rebecca and Haley Monk, Mary Morgan, Kate, Trey, and Lucy Saunders.
The family requests no flowers but a remembrance may be given to Brown's Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Mr. John Galloway, Jr., 3337 North County Road 67, Skipperville, Alabama 36374.
