Obituary of Reno William Gilchrest

Mr. Reno William Gilchrest, (Air Force Veteran) age 83, of Daleville, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014, in Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Thursday, January 9, 2014, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend John McCullough officiating. Interment will follow in Daleville Memorial Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 9:30 A. M. until service time. Mr. Gilchrest was born August 5, 1930 in Waterbury, CT to the late Herbert Edison Gilchrest and Ruby Pearl Landfear Gilchrest. He was raised in Cheshire, Connecticut and served in the Air Force from 1947 until 1950 and from 1952 until 1955. Mr. Gilchrest resided in Fayetteville, North Carolina from 1950 until 1968 and then moved to Pompano Beach, Florida where he lived until 1985 when he moved to Daleville. He retired from Doctors General Hospital in Plantation, FL as Comptroller. In Daleville he worked part time with Daleville Mini Storage, was a Commissioner with Daleville Housing Authority. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Daleville and worked as a volunteer for various hospice programs. He was loved my many and will be missed. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilchrest was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lee Gilchrest; one brother, Edward Gilchrest; and three sisters, Bernice Hozubin, Bobby Bielier, and Judy Millar. Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Kathryn (Ike) Israel of Daleville, AL; one son, David Reno Gilchrest of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, CW5 James Israel of Ft. Bragg, NC, Patrick Israel of Nolen, TN, Mandi (Jason) Hendrix of Birmingham, AL, Kayce Israel of Daleville, AL, and Isaac of Kannapolis, NC; one brother, Herbert (Joan) Gilchrest of West Columbia, SC; two sisters, Ruby Mouw of MI, and Freda Bronsord of Wallingford, CT. Several great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Daleville, 44 South Daleville Avenue, Daleville, AL 36322; or to DaySprings Hospice, P. O. Box 311246, Enterprise, AL 36331.
